Sarah Furnace Cave Survey

Project Leader: Bert Ashbrook
Current Status: Two trips monthly.
Sarah Furnace Cave is the longest cave in Pennsylvania and in the northeastern US. It is also the maziest cave in the world, with over 8 miles of surveyed passage (as of November 2022) beneath only 5 acres of land. The cave is in Clarion County, a four hours’ drive from Allentown. There is so much cave left to explore and survey, that we schedule two trips each month. These are work trips (cave surveying), but participants get to see lots of the cave. No cave survey experience is required (we’ll teach you), but the cave is not appropriate for beginning cavers. Anyone interested should contact Bert Ashbrook for details.
