General Membership Meeting
of the
Greater Allentown Grotto, Inc.

Sunday, May 21, 2006


Meeting called to order at 7:20 PM by Secretary Michael Spencer.

7 members were present.

Minutes:                 April 16, 2006 General Membership Meeting minutes were read by Secretary Michael Spencer and approved without corrections.

Treasurers Report:   Treasurer Doug Soroka reported receiving $111 from Vince Kappler for membership for a total of $449.38 in checking and about $428 in the mutual fund.  Approximate net of $ 877.78.  Mike S. reported receiving a $12 invoice for GAG's web hosting.  Doug wrote a GAG check to pay the invoice.

Newsletter:             George reported that the newsletter was out, although he received no trip reports.

Membership:            Membership Chair Vince Kappler reported sending George an updated list of exchanges for the newsletter.

Correspondence:      Spiritual Leader Dean Snyder reported we have not received the NE Caver for a while.

Old Business

None.

New Business

Surprise Cave:       Doug reported that GAG has been granted access to Surprise Cave in NY for the Summer season.  Doug has the liability waiver, which must be signed by all participants interested.

Lost Receipts:         Doug wanted it noted for the record that he had found the lost Stackpole book receipt.

Grotto Picnic:         Ed & Kim Kehs have graciously volunteered to have the Grotto Picnic at their house at Onyx Cave on Saturday, August 26th.

5013C Software:    Doug received information on a company that sells software a significantly reduced prices to 5013C organizations.  Their website is www.techsoup.org

Trip Reports

Spring MAR:          Dean  reported that weather was good at the MAR, which was held at the American Legion in Williamson, PA.  There was a good chicken dinner and many cave trips.  Dean and Vince took a field trip to look for covered bridges depicted in a series of post cards published by Baker Caverns.  They found the locations of several of the bridges, with one still standing.  The next MAR will by hosted by Nittany Grotto in Bellefonte.

Butler Dig:             Mike reported on the Twisting Sister dig started on Phil Lucas' property Pancake Dig Weekend.

Coopers Cave:        Doug visited Coopers Cave in Glen Falls, NY.  It was a short (20 ft fissure cave).

Other Dig:              Ed Kehs reported on another dig.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:05 PM

Program:                 Dean showed an old 16 mm film, Caverns of Luray by Guided Tour Productions.
